Whether Or Never
We took about 22+ home recordings off Corey's recording unit to James Stapleford, a producer I worked with on "A Taste Of What's To Come". The idea was to clean up the tracks best we could and add some things here and there. I know Corey recorded most of this stuff as reference only. Some of the tracks are really amazing and you can hear the intensity in Corey's playing, especially on his tapping songs and instrumental guitar pieces. With Corey being gone, I made all the decisions on what songs to use and the order for each disc. I felt he guided me somewhat and I hope he would be pleased with the outcome. Whether Or Never:
This song is absolutely amazing. The changes are mature and creative and the lyrical melody fits perfectly. Somehow, Corey's songs that have words which are few considering he only has 5 songs that are not instrumental, were always in a perfect key for my range. What we did with this particular track was found a recording of the song where Corey is lightly singing and dubbed in my vocals on top, layered some harmonies and it was done. It sounds as though we are singing together & I love that. These words were printed out with a photo of Corey playing guitar on the programs at his Memorial Service. We didn't get to perform this song live as many times as Eye To Eye but we did play it at World Cafe Live and for a tv documentary on our band at the time. It's possible we played it out together at a First Friday or two as well. I miss playing with him.
